On Thursday, President Donald Trump welcomed Chinese President Xi Jinping to the White House for a meeting that turned into a hilarious moment when Trump jokingly pointed to an autopen during their tour of presidential portraits.
As is customary for foreign leaders visiting the White House, Trump took Xi on a guided tour. During the tour, they stopped at a display featuring portraits of past U.S. presidents. When Trump reached the section that typically showed President Biden’s portrait, it was replaced with an autopen—a device famously associated with the former president.
The incident occurred as Trump joked to Xi: “This is the autopen… it’s Biden.” The comment drew laughter from Xi and his entourage. The White House confirmed the moment in a video shared by a White House aide showing Trump gesturing toward the autopen and saying, “Trump, and then Trump, and this is the autopen,” before adding, “It’s Biden.”
Additionally, the two leaders discussed trade, Taiwan, the Middle East, and Russia’s war in Ukraine during their meeting.
