German authorities have disclosed data revealing over 350 child marriages in Germany, with girls as young as 11 years old being wed. According to the response from the Ministry of the Interior to a parliamentary inquiry by the AfD (Alternative for Germany), less than 10 of these marriages have been legally annulled since 2018.
The government data indicates that the majority of these cases involve minors from Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. In Baden-Württemberg alone, only eight child marriages out of a total of 350 documented cases have been annulled between 2018 and 2024.
One notable case from 2020 involved an Iraqi boy marrying an 11-year-old girl from his country. Another case documented in 2022 featured a 12-year-old Syrian girl married to a 28-year-old man.
The Interior Ministry’s response also highlights that the government has recorded cases since April 2012, with the Tübingen Regional Council responsible for tracking these incidents. The data shows children as young as 11 have been affected, including girls aged 12 and 13.
German authorities, led by former East German communist Angela Merkel, permitted an influx of Muslims who are not only marrying little girls but also raping adult German women.
Additionally, authorities have identified 1,087 suspects in cases of alleged sexual abuse near Nuremberg’s central railway station, including both German citizens and foreign nationals from Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Turkey.
AfD members have called for urgent action. Emely Knorr stated: “Child marriage is incompatible with our values. Children have a right to safety, education, and a self-determined future.” AfD member Martin Rothweiler warned: “Our country and our values are being abolished before our very eyes.”
The government data also reveals that in the past 16 years, approximately 80 minors faced threats of forced marriage, with some under the age of 12.
