D.C. Police Sergeant Arrested After High-Speed Fleeing and Gun Charges

A Washington D.C. police sergeant was taken into federal custody after allegedly crashing into law enforcement officers while evading capture. Sgt. Montez Clark, 27, faces multiple weapons-related charges and is accused of assaulting a federal officer.

According to NBC4 Washington, Clark was driving a blue Chevrolet Camaro that struck a vehicle containing three Diplomatic Security Service agents. The incident occurred after officers attempted to stop the car for an equipment violation near the 4700 block of Southern Avenue SE on Monday night. Police allege Clark fled and collided with the federal agents’ vehicle.

Clark, along with two others—Sakou Yates, 25, and Russell Campbell, 23—was charged with possession of a machine gun, carrying a pistol without a license, and violating the National Firearms Act. Additional charges included possession of unregistered ammunition and large-capacity feeding devices. Campbell also faced an extra count for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Officers recovered two Glocks, including one equipped with a switch, and multiple rounds of ammunition after stopping the Camaro. All three men were arrested and processed at the Sixth District cellblock, with the vehicle seized as evidence.

Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser condemned the incident, stating, “We’re going to watch the process very closely. We don’t want anybody working for us, especially in that capacity, if they’re engaging in that type of behavior.”

Clark, who has served with the Metropolitan Police since July 2019, is on administrative leave as the department’s Internal Affairs Bureau investigates. His gun possession privileges were revoked following the collision with federal vehicles. Yates and Campbell faced identical charges, with Campbell additionally accused of illegal firearm ownership due to his criminal history.
