Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler has started serving a four-day jail sentence following his conviction on driving under the influence charges. The former Denver Broncos and Chicago Bears player was arrested last October in Franklin, Tennessee, after allegedly rear-ending another vehicle in a minor traffic collision. Police reported that he attempted to flee the scene by offering the other driver $2,000 not to report the incident.
Court documents state Cutler exhibited signs of impairment, including bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. He initially denied consuming alcohol but later admitted to having “a little bit” when questioned. He was charged with DUI and possession of a handgun while under the influence.
In August, Cutler accepted a plea deal that would have dropped the gun charge if he surrendered the weapon. However, he was booked into jail on Monday for violations including DUI, failure to exercise due care, and possession of a firearm while intoxicated. The sentence includes four days in custody, a one-year probation period with mandatory drug testing, a $350 fine, and license revocation.
Cutler had previously expressed public support for former President Donald Trump, stating his approval of the 2016 election results and describing himself as a long-time Trump backer.
