An American Airlines flight was forced to cancel its takeoff when another aircraft entered the departure runway at Los Angeles International Airport. The incident occurred around 10:35 p.m. local time on Sunday, according to reports. A cargo flight reportedly crossed the runway without authorization, prompting air traffic controllers to instruct the Boston-bound flight to abort its takeoff.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed the unauthorized runway entry by AeroLogic Flight 619, stating the closest proximity between the two aircraft was approximately 5,200 feet. Flight tracking data indicated AeroLogic Flight 618 had just landed at LAX after a 10-hour journey from Shanghai, China.
American Airlines stated the flight later departed on an alternate aircraft, thanking its crew for their “quick action.” The FAA noted 101 runway incursions caused by pilot deviations in 2025, citing previous close calls such as a March incident at Chicago’s Midway International Airport. AeroLogic reported no injuries or damage and confirmed it is investigating the event.
