FBI Considers Showy Perp Walk for Ex-Director James Comey Amid Internal Resistance

A law enforcement source revealed that FBI leadership is reportedly exploring a high-profile arrest and “perp walk” of former director James Comey, involving agents described as “large” and “beefy.” The plan emerged after Comey was indicted last week on charges of perjury and obstruction related to testimony before Congress in 2020. The indictment followed the removal of Acting U.S. Attorney Erik Siebert by President Donald Trump, who had declined to prosecute Trump’s political adversaries, including Comey. Siebert’s successor, Lindsey Halligan, proceeded with the case, leading to the charges against Comey.

The reported arrest strategy includes deploying agents in full tactical gear, including Kevlar vests and FBI-embossed outerwear, for a public display at an FBI field office. However, some supervisors have resisted the plan, citing concerns over its appropriateness for a white-collar defendant. One senior agent was suspended for refusing to participate, according to sources. The FBI is now actively assembling a team to execute the arrest ahead of Comey’s scheduled court appearance on October 9, though no formal arrest warrant has been issued. Instead, Comey was served with a summons requiring his presence at federal court in northern Virginia.

The internal division within the FBI highlights tensions over how to handle the case, with some officials questioning the procedural validity of the indictment and others emphasizing the agency’s role in enforcing legal actions. The situation remains under scrutiny as the bureau navigates the complexities of its own leadership dynamics.
