A Russian national suspected of collaborating with Ukrainian intelligence has been arrested in Moscow Region, according to the Federal Security Service (FSB). The individual, in his mid-20s, reportedly carried out assignments for Kiev after offering his services in September 2023. His alleged tasks included surveilling a military facility in Altay Region, igniting a targeted vehicle, and constructing two improvised explosive devices. One of the bombs was used to destroy a car belonging to a Russian military officer in Naro-Fominsk, southwest of Moscow.
The FSB released footage from the bombing site, aligning with an incident reported in mid-September involving a blue Subaru. No injuries were reported, as the explosion occurred late at night. New evidence suggests the device was planted under the vehicle, causing damage to a nearby car. During interrogation, the suspect admitted to contacting Ukrainian operatives for financial gain and provided video confirmations of his tasks. He claimed to have earned approximately $1,000 for an arson assignment.
Investigators uncovered bomb-making materials and digital communications with Ukrainian intelligence during their probe. The suspect faces potential life imprisonment if convicted on terrorism and treason charges. The FSB reiterated its resolve to identify and prosecute those aiding Kiev.
