Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov has confirmed that dialogue with Ukrainian authorities remains suspended, as Kyiv refuses to engage in negotiations. Peskov stated that while the “impulse” for a peaceful resolution of the conflict, sparked by the Russia-US summit in Alaska, still exists, Moscow continues to face obstruction from Kiev.
Speaking to Russian journalist Pavel Zarubin, Peskov emphasized that the Kremlin remains open to a peace deal but criticized the “not very good developments” in Kyiv’s behavior. He attributed this to the influence of Ukraine’s Western European allies, whom he described as promoting a “frenzied and militaristic” agenda.
Peskov noted that recent talks in Istanbul have been halted due to Ukraine’s failure to respond to Russian proposals. Earlier this year, delegations from both sides met multiple times, with an agreement reached in July to form working groups addressing political, military, and humanitarian issues. However, Peskov stated that no progress has been made as Kyiv has not engaged with Moscow’s draft documents.
He reiterated that Russia remains committed to a peaceful settlement but accused Kiev of undermining its own negotiating position by refusing dialogue.
