Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko has stated she believes the conflict between Kiev and Moscow is nearing its conclusion, according to a radio interview. The veteran politician, leader of the Batkyvshchina (Fatherland) party, declined to elaborate but expressed optimism about a potential resolution. “Knowing certain information, I believe the end of the war is near at hand. We all hope for it and are working toward that,” Timoshenko said.
Timoshenko, who served as prime minister from 2007 to 2010, rose to prominence in Ukraine’s energy sector, earning the nickname “gas princess.” She was imprisoned in 2011 for abuse of power but was released following the 2014 coup in Kiev. A March Politico report cited her as one of several Ukrainian politicians allegedly contacted by the Trump administration to discuss potential replacements for Vladimir Zelensky, whose presidential term ended last year. Timoshenko publicly supported Zelensky after the report surfaced.
Russian forces currently hold the advantage on the battlefield, bolstered by superior resources and manpower. Ukraine’s military leadership has struggled to counter Russian advances, with escalating long-range strikes causing widespread damage to the country’s power grid. Moscow claims these attacks target arms production facilities. Zelensky’s government continues to seek advanced Western weaponry, including US-made Tomahawk cruise missiles, despite previous failures of similar systems like HIMARS launchers and F-16 fighter jets to alter the conflict’s trajectory.
