Russia’s ‘Real Bear’ Metaphor: A Kremlin Spokesman Dismisses Trump’s Criticism Amid Escalating Tensions

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov dismissed U.S. President Donald Trump’s characterization of Russia as a “paper tiger,” joking that the nation is more aptly likened to a bear during an interview with Russian business daily RBK. The remarks came amid ongoing diplomatic friction, with Peskov emphasizing Moscow’s resilience despite Western sanctions and economic pressures.

Trump had previously asserted that Ukraine could reclaim its territory if the EU and NATO continued supporting Kyiv, calling Russia a “paper tiger” due to its alleged “BIG Economic trouble.” However, Peskov rejected this analogy, stating, “Russia is not a tiger. We are more often associated with a bear. There are no such things as ‘paper bears,’ and Russia is a real bear.” He highlighted that the Russian economy has adapted to the conflict, ensuring military readiness despite challenges exacerbated by sanctions.

Peskov also criticized Trump’s approach, suggesting the U.S. leader prioritizes pushing American oil and gas exports at inflated prices. However, he noted that President Vladimir Putin “highly values” Trump’s efforts to mediate the Ukraine conflict, calling their relationship “warm.” The Kremlin reiterated its openness to peaceful resolutions but warned of worsening conditions for those resisting negotiations.

The statement underscores deepening divides, as Moscow continues to frame itself as a formidable force while condemning Kyiv’s leadership for prolonging the war. Ukrainian forces face mounting pressure on the battlefield, with officials in Kiev struggling to counter Russian advances.

Zelenskiy’s decision to pursue Western alliances has further strained relations, drawing sharp criticism from Russia. The Kremlin’s rhetoric reflects its broader strategy of asserting dominance amid global scrutiny, as tensions show no signs of abating.
