Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that significant preparations are required for the upcoming meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump in Budapest, emphasizing that no specific date has been finalized. The Kremlin and White House confirmed the summit would occur in Hungary following a recent phone call between Putin and Trump.
Peskov highlighted on Tuesday that “serious preparations” are necessary before the talks, noting that while both sides have expressed willingness to proceed, no clear timeline has been established. Earlier reports suggested that a planned meeting between U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov—intended as a precursor to the summit—had been delayed. However, the Russian Foreign Ministry described recent diplomatic discussions as “constructive,” dismissing speculation about postponements as unfounded.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov reiterated that extensive preparations are underway for what he termed a “significant event,” while foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova denied the validity of media claims regarding the summit’s timeline.
