Amazon’s Robot Revolution: 600,000 Jobs at Risk as Tech Giants Push Automation

Internal documents suggest Amazon plans to replace over 600,000 American jobs with robots, according to multiple reports. The e-commerce giant aims to double its product sales by 2033 without expanding its U.S. workforce, according to leaked materials.

Amazon’s chief technologist, Tye Brady, dismissed fears of job losses, stating the company’s automation efforts would “amplify what our employees can do” by providing tools to improve safety and productivity. However, documents indicate the robotics team has a long-term goal of automating 75% of operations.

A company spokesperson denied the reports, claiming the materials reflected only one team’s perspective and did not represent Amazon’s overall hiring strategy. The spokesperson emphasized the company is actively recruiting for hundreds of thousands of roles, including 250,000 seasonal positions.

Senator Bernie Sanders criticized corporate automation, accusing tech giants of prioritizing profits over workers. He claimed Amazon’s plan to replace 600,000 jobs with robots exemplifies a broader trend of “big Tech oligarchs” exploiting AI and robotics.

Economist Daron Acemoglu warned that if Amazon succeeds in automating its operations, it could become a “net job destroyer,” shifting the balance of employment in the U.S. The company has not restricted executives from discussing automation, with no direct connection to community initiatives.
