The Biden Department of Justice’s “Operation Arctic Frost” has escalated into a major political firestorm, with Senate Republican leaders revealing the scope of Special Counsel Jack Smith’s investigative efforts. Senator Chuck Grassley disclosed that 197 subpoenas were issued as part of the probe, targeting over 400 Republicans, including conservative organizations and key figures in the Trump administration.
Grassley released the full list of subpoenas, which include requests for records from entities like Event Strategies, linked to Turning Point USA, and the Republican Attorney General’s Association. The investigation also sought communications with media outlets such as Fox News and Newsmax, alongside financial data from conservative groups. Subpoenas were directed at 34 individuals and 163 businesses, including Apple, which was asked to provide records related to Trump and the “January 6th Prison Choir.”
Senate Republicans condemned the probe as a politically motivated overreach, comparing it to the Watergate scandal that led to Richard Nixon’s resignation. Senator Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.) called for “Watergate-style hearings” to hold officials accountable, while Senator Ted Cruz labeled the operation “Joe Biden’s Watergate.” Cruz accused Judge James Boasberg of abusing his authority by ordering AT&T not to notify him of a subpoena for his phone records, citing concerns about evidence tampering.
The investigation has also drawn scrutiny over the targeting of prominent Republicans, including Stephen Miller, Dan Scavino, and Turning Point USA’s COO. Cruz demanded Boasberg’s impeachment, alleging the judge made unfounded claims about potential evidence destruction by Senate colleagues. Meanwhile, President Trump has called for criminal charges against Smith and others involved in the probe.
The revelations have intensified calls for transparency and accountability within the Biden administration’s Justice Department.
