Record Number of UK Prisoners Mistakenly Released Amid Crisis

The UK authorities released a record number of prisoners by mistake between March 2024 and March 2025, according to reports. Data revealed that 262 individuals were incorrectly freed within 12 months, marking the highest year-on-year increase. The errors included bureaucratic missteps and participation in an early release program initiated by the Labor Party. As a result, thousands of prisoners were released after serving only 40% of their sentences. The British Ministry of Justice has announced plans to form a special task force to address the issue.
