Hundreds of food service workers at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) staged a protest on Tuesday, significantly disrupting traffic during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
The demonstration occurred as protesters marched onto Century Boulevard, blocking access to a major entrance to the airport and shutting down traffic around LAX’s main pickup and drop-off zones. According to reports, this action caused thousands of holiday travelers to be stuck in severe traffic jams while rushing to catch their flights.
While the primary participants were food service workers at LAX demanding better contracts with the airport management, secondary sources like Fox News described some motorists being forced to abandon their cars and walk to the terminal building to reach their flights on time. The demonstrations brought significant disruption to the busy airport facility’s external access points during the peak holiday travel season.
Airport security forces in riot gear responded by clearing the intersection after approximately 6:15 p.m., gradually restoring normal traffic flow as travelers attempted to return to their terminals following the protest activity that had blocked road access.
