Two Boone County deputies were shot Thursday night while serving a warrant in Walton, Kentucky, according to reports. Law enforcement agencies responded to an active shooter situation after the incident, with authorities confirming the scene remained volatile as multiple rounds were fired. Residents in nearby areas were ordered to shelter in place, and officials urged the public to avoid the area for safety.
Emergency medical crews stood by, though details about the deputies’ injuries remained unclear. Roads near the location were closed, and a significant police presence was maintained as officers worked to secure the site.
A man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after shooting and wounding two deputies at a Boone County apartment complex late Thursday, officials confirmed. The deputies were taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where they were reported in stable condition.
Boone County Sheriff’s Office Major Phillip Ridgell described the situation as “the worst nightmare type of scenario,” noting that the suspect barricaded himself inside the residence following the initial shooting. A SWAT team and negotiators were deployed to the scene.
Ridgell later updated that both deputies’ conditions were “pretty positive,” with one undergoing surgery. The suspect remained barricaded until officials confirmed his death via drone footage. No other deputies or residents were injured, and a criminal investigation is ongoing.
