Cameron Smotherman Collapses During Weigh-In at UFC 324, Bout Cancelled

UFC bantamweight Cameron Smotherman collapsed unexpectedly after completing his weigh-in for an upcoming fight at UFC 324 in Las Vegas on Saturday. The incident occurred moments after Smotherman successfully weighed in at 135.5 pounds before stepping away from the scale and falling to the floor.

The bout with Ricky Turcios was immediately canceled following the collapse. Medical staff attended to Smotherman, but he required assistance to be carried from the weigh-in area, according to Collin Rugg. The UFC has not released any updates on Smotherman’s medical condition, though he is currently listed as 1-2 in his three UFC appearances.

Weight cutting remains a standard practice in the UFC and mixed martial arts competitions, with athletes often shedding more than 10% of body weight ahead of weigh-ins before rehydration. Smotherman entered the weekend having lost back-to-back bouts to Serhiy Sidey and Ricky Simón in 2025 but earned a unanimous decision victory over Jake Hadley during his Octagon debut in October 2024.

In other weigh-in developments, former UFC flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo missed weight by 2.5 pounds for a high-profile matchup against Umar Nurmagomedov, while flyweight Alex Perez also fell short by the same margin for a contest against Charles Johnson. Both fighters were fined 25% of their purses but their bouts proceeded as scheduled.

With Smotherman’s bout canceled, UFC 324 will now proceed as a 12-fight card at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena Saturday. The event marks the start of the UFC’s new $7.7 billion broadcast partnership with Paramount.
