Two Men Fire Shots at U.S. Consulate in Toronto as Security Tightens

Authorities in Toronto reported that two men fired shots at the U.S. Consulate on Tuesday morning. Police said the suspects exited a white Honda CR-V and discharged multiple rounds using one handgun, according to Deputy Chief Frank Barredo of the Toronto Police Service. No injuries were reported.

Television images showed bullet marks on the glass door at the main entrance of the consulate. The building is located near Ontario’s legislature and adjacent to major courthouses and hospitals.

The U.S. Consulate has frequently been a site for demonstrations against the United States, including protests this weekend opposing military actions in Iran involving American and Israeli forces.

Authorities have heightened security at both the American and Israeli consulates in Toronto and Ottawa following this incident, which occurs after shots were fired at three synagogues in Toronto last week. Ontario Premier Doug Ford condemned the shooting as “an absolutely unacceptable act of violence and intimidation aimed at our American friends and neighbors,” stating all levels of government would work to ensure perpetrators face prosecution under the full extent of the law.

The U.S. Department of State confirmed awareness of the incident and coordination with local authorities. This attack follows an explosion outside the U.S. Embassy in Oslo, Norway, reported early Sunday.
