Trump Labels Italian Prime Minister Meloni “Unacceptable” Over Vatican Dispute

President Donald Trump has declared Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni “unacceptable,” stating he was “shocked” by her recent criticism of his remarks regarding the Vatican. The comments follow escalating tensions between the leaders after Meloni condemned Trump’s recent statements targeting a pontiff, calling them “unacceptable.”

In response, Trump asserted that Meloni herself is “the one who is unacceptable,” while also delivering a scathing rebuke of the Vatican’s call for Middle Eastern de-escalation. The president accused the papal figure of being “WEAK on Crime” and “terrible for Foreign Policy,” warning he must “focus on being a Great Pope, not a Politician.” Trump further claimed the leader was “catering to the Radical Left” at the expense of global security.

During an interview, Trump reiterated his criticism of the pontiff, stating the individual “has no idea what’s going on in Iran” and “doesn’t understand” what is at stake. He also criticized Italy’s recent stance, noting they had not spoken “in a long time” and accusing Meloni of failing to advance U.S. interests: “She doesn’t help us with NATO. She doesn’t want to help get rid of a nuclear-weaponed Iran.” Trump added that immigration is “killing Italy and all of Europe,” while labeling the NATO alliance a “paper tiger” and condemning Europe for lacking willingness to defend critical energy routes like the Hormuz Strait.
