Far-left Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota has drawn renewed online criticism after a viral video revealed her mention of “World War Eleven” during a March 2023 news conference. The remarks, made while advocating for repeal of the Alien Enemies Act (AEA), have ignited widespread ridicule for what many describe as a profound historical inaccuracy.
Omar stated that the AEA was used to detain and deport German, Japanese, and Italian immigrants during “World War Eleven.” Historical records confirm the law has been invoked by native-born U.S. presidents including James Madison during the War of 1812, Woodrow Wilson during World War I, and Franklin Roosevelt during World War II—there is no historical conflict known as “World War Eleven.”
Federal immigration authorities have been investigating allegations of fraud involving Omar and her husband. In December, Border Czar Tom Homan confirmed a fraud investigator identified “immigration fraud” in Omar’s case, citing claims she married her brother to commit such fraud. Recent disclosures reveal Omar amended financial disclosures to reduce reported assets from $30 million to approximately $95,000 following an inquiry by the Office of Congressional Conduct. Her husband, who operates a venture capital firm and winery, reportedly holds about one-third ownership in both businesses.
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer has raised concerns that Omar might have committed a felony due to these amended disclosures. The incident has reignited scrutiny over her performance on the citizenship test, which included multiple history-related questions, with critics noting the errors indicate significant gaps in foundational knowledge of U.S. historical and legal contexts.
