In Garland, Texas, a father used his legally owned firearm to fend off a carjacker who targeted a family inside a white Chevrolet Impala. The suspect, described by police as a Hispanic male, had previously smashed into two other vehicles and was attempting to force entry into a parking lot near Highway 66 and Dairy Road.
According to reports, the carjacker eventually focused on the vehicle containing children and adult women. The father drew his weapon and fired more than 10 rounds at the suspect. The carjacker later died in a hospital from his injuries.
The father remained at the scene, cooperated with investigators, and turned over his firearm to police. He also received widespread praise on social media for his actions.
Police confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing but no charges have been filed as of publication.
Taylor Stanfield, a resident who has lived in Garland for 13 years, expressed concern: “It’s definitely very concerning,” he said. “My kids are playing outside all the time, my wife is out there with them, and like I said, if somebody like this were able to drive away in that vehicle, who knows what could have happened.”
