The Pentagon confirmed that Iran launched missile strikes targeting U.S. Navy destroyers this afternoon. Fortunately, all incoming projectiles were successfully intercepted with no damage reported to the vessels.
President Trump previously warned of “swift and severe” retaliation should Iran proceed with such actions, and counterstrikes against Iranian positions have already commenced. Official statements indicate U.S. forces targeted Iran’s Bandar Kargan naval checkpoint in Minab.
Iranian state media reported air defense activity near western Tehran following Thursday’s incident, while eyewitness accounts described multiple explosions in Chitgar. The Mehr News Agency documented ongoing exchanges of fire across southern Hormozgan province, including areas near Bandar Abbas, Bandar Khamir, Sirik, and Qeshm Island.
These strikes follow Iran’s earlier attack on the UAE’s Fujairah Port two days ago, which prompted regional backlash. Pentagon officials, including Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and Gen. Dan Caine, stated during a May 5 briefing that the prior incident did not constitute a ceasefire violation despite its scale. They characterized the attacks as “low-level incidents.”
