5-Day Countdown: Rand Paul Demands Fauci Indictment Before Statute of Limitations Expires

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) has declared a critical deadline for holding Dr. Anthony Fauci accountable, warning that the Justice Department must indict the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases before a statutory timeframe expires in five days.

Paul recently stated on social media that despite former President Joe Biden issuing a sweeping pardon for Fauci on January 19, 2025, David Morens—Fauci’s top advisor—was indicted late last month for “deliberately concealing information and falsifying records” aimed at suppressing alternative theories about the pandemic’s origins. Paul emphasized that Fauci himself remains legally free while his advisor faces criminal charges.

The senator reiterated that Fauci “lied to Congress under oath” regarding funding of gain-of-function research involving bat coronaviruses in Wuhan, a claim Paul has repeatedly advanced since 2021. During a May 2021 Senate hearing, Fauci denied any support for such research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, stating: “I do not favor gain-of-function research in China.” Paul maintains this denial undermines transparency and calls for accountability under current legal constraints.

Paul’s assertion that the statute of limitations expires on May 11—five days after his latest statement—has drawn significant attention from critics who hope for Fauci’s prosecution, though skepticism remains about whether substantial action will follow.
