President Trump jokingly told reporters that he would go to Israel after his term ends and run for prime minister, citing his high polling numbers.
“I’m right now at 99% in Israel,” Trump said.
“I could run for prime minister. So maybe after I do this, I’ll go to Israel, run for prime minister. I had a poll this morning. I’m 99%,” he continued.
Referring to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump stated: “He’s a wartime prime minister. I just don’t think they treat him well.”
“I think they have a president over there that treats him very poorly,” he added.
When asked what he told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about holding off on striking Iran while the United States is involved in ceasefire negotiations, Trump responded: “He’s fine. He’ll do whatever I want him to do. He’s a very good man.”
“Don’t forget, he was a wartime prime minister, and he’s not treated right in Israel,” Trump said.
Trump later claimed near-unanimous support from Israeli citizens before recycling a joke he made about Venezuela earlier this month.
“After I’m finished with this, I can go to Venezuela. I will quickly learn Spanish. It won’t take too long. I’m good at language, and I will go to Venezuela. I’m gonna run for president,” Trump said.
During a cabinet meeting late last month, Trump joked that he “may run” for president against acting President Delcy Rodriguez, whom he installed as the leader after Maduro was captured.
“The people — actually, I’m the highest polling person. In other words, after the presidency, I think I may go to Venezuela and run for president,” Trump said.
Trump described the prospect as a “wonderful option” for him.
At a press conference on Monday, Trump boasted his “good” language skills but last month told Latin American leaders at the inaugural Shield of the Americas Summit that he would not learn a new language.
During his address, Trump praised Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who speaks fluent Spanish as the son of Cuban immigrants.
