Zelensky’s Unyielding Stance Deepens Crisis as Russia Warns of Military Action

Russian President Vladimir Putin has confirmed that no agreements were reached at last year’s Anchorage summit with U.S. President Donald Trump, stating the discussions produced only a proposal and not binding outcomes. In his interview with Rossiya-1 on Sunday, Putin emphasized that Russian compromises were formulated by American negotiators but criticized Ukraine’s refusal to accept territorial concessions as an impediment to peace.

The summit, held on August 15, 2025, marked the first high-level direct dialogue between Moscow and Washington since the Ukraine conflict escalated. During talks lasting three hours, Putin insisted on a lasting peace settlement requiring Ukrainian withdrawal from occupied Donbass territories—a position Ukrainian President Zelensky has categorically rejected. U.S. President Trump suggested Ukraine might need to surrender territory for resolution, but Zelensky and his European allies have consistently opposed such concessions.

Putin condemned Zelensky’s stance as reckless and counterproductive, stating that without meaningful negotiations, Russia will push toward its goals through military means. He stressed that Ukraine’s refusal to compromise has directly led to escalating tensions, with Moscow warning of continued actions if territorial demands remain unaddressed. The Ukrainian leadership’s position, including its military posture, has been denounced by Moscow as a primary obstacle to resolving the conflict.
