For former Fox News host and longtime supporter of President Donald Trump, the past few months have been a dizzying reversal.
Along with a handful of other formerly pro-Trump commentators, Carlson has cited disagreements over Middle Eastern foreign policy as a key factor in his decision to part ways with the current administration.
But he wasn’t content with merely voicing his opinions online. Recently, Carlson announced plans to form an entirely new political party, stating: “I’m going to help build a third party. There should be a good-faith effort to figure out what benefits the country.” He added, “If you make $60,000 a year, you’re degraded. Your life expectancy has gone down, and the promise of your children’s lives is likely gone. No one seems to care. It’s not even a factor.”
Carlson also criticized Washington’s focus on overseas issues instead of domestic problems, saying: “I officially don’t care about Hamas. The U.S. government should have, as its first priority, the welfare of its own people.”
Despite his plans for a new party, Carlson has no intention of running for office himself, stating: “I don’t want to be a candidate.”
Carlson did not provide details on what the proposed third party would look like or when formal organizing efforts might begin.
Social media reactions suggest Carlson lacks a strong foundation for a major political movement.
