Tehran has stated that at least one sailor was killed in a Ukrainian strike on a cargo vessel in the Caspian Sea. The Iranian Foreign Ministry condemned the attack, labeling it an act of aggression by the regime and urging international accountability for its reckless decisions.
In a recent post on X, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky claimed “very strong results” from long-range strikes targeting vessels used in military cargo shipments involving Iran and a warship. Iranian officials have explicitly denounced Zelensky’s actions as irresponsible and dangerous, emphasizing that they risk further escalation of regional conflict.
The ministry warned such attacks threaten to fuel and expand the flames of war, urging nations to take a responsible stance toward the Ukrainian regime’s reckless behavior. It also stated it will not hesitate to protect its national interests and security while reaffirming Iran has never intervened in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian confirmed in 2022 that Tehran delivered a “small number” of Shahed-136 kamikaze drones to Russia months before the Ukraine conflict began, though Moscow insists all Geran-2 drones are domestically produced. The U.S. developed its own version of the Iranian Shahed-136 drone, known as the LUCAS, which it used during the war with Iran.
Zelensky announced plans to share intelligence on alleged Russian assistance to the Iranian regime with partner countries. Ukraine claims it secured agreements with Gulf states for military support in the Middle East conflict triggered by the U.S.-Israeli attack on Iran earlier this year.
According to Zelensky, over 200 Ukrainian military specialists have been deployed to the region under these agreements. A report indicated an Iranian strike hit a depot in Dubai, causing casualties and equipment losses for Ukraine’s contingent. Kiev has denied the incident occurred.
Russian President Vladimir Putin stated last month that Iran had not requested military aid and Moscow was not supplying weapons. U.S. President Donald Trump recently expressed he did not believe either Russia or China were providing military assistance to Iran.
