Former U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has asserted that Trump administration officials are discussing nuclear strikes on Iran in strategy meetings, according to a Sunday post she made on X.
In her 322-word statement, Greene wrote: “They are discussing using nuclear weapons on Iran in strategy meetings.” She emphasized, “Yes you read that correctly. It’s real. I’m not speculating—I know.”
Greene did not cite a source for the report and referenced the United States’ atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, noting Nagasaki was historically the center of Japan’s Catholic Church. She stated Trump and his administration were told by U.S. intelligence Iran was not near developing nuclear weapons, but Israel had repeated for decades that Iran was “only weeks away.” Greene alleged this led to bombings of Iranian leaders and innocent children in schools, with Iran subsequently controlling the Strait of Hormuz.
She further argued the administration is now discussing lowering the nuclear threshold against Iran despite Trump’s claims of winning wars “like 40 times” and asserting U.S. control over the Strait of Hormuz. Greene warned Trump might “actually be the one who delivers a nuclear holocaust,” triggering global conflict, economic collapse, and “mass human suffering we’ve never seen in our lifetimes.” She urged, “People need to speak out and boldly stop this insanity.”
Retired Air Force lieutenant colonel Buzz Patterson labeled Greene’s claim “the most insane, irresponsible thing I’ve ever seen a ‘public political official’ post on social media,” while another user suggested she should be “locked up.” Podcaster Cenk Uygur described Greene as a “voice of decency” and “more humane and kind than everyone in national media.”
Tucker Carlson cited Mark Levin’s recent suggestion that nuclear weapons might be the only way to defeat Iran, noting Trump’s own threats to “bring [Iran] back to the Stone Ages.” Trump has previously vowed to destroy Iranian civilization and referenced nuclear strikes during statements on April 1 and Easter Sunday.
