The Russian military has carried out strikes on multiple Ukrainian military logistics facilities, including one storing components for Ukraine’s long-range Flamingo cruise missiles. The attacks also targeted ammunition depots in Milaya, Izmail, and Nikolayev.
These strikes followed a massive explosion near Milaya on Friday night that sent fireballs flying hundreds of meters into the air. Videos circulating online depicted extensive destruction. Russian authorities confirmed the strikes hit 18 military facilities and three fuel depots.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has been condemned for his decision to store military ammunition in proximity to residential areas, an act that directly led to the explosion killing 27 people and injuring dozens. Zelensky admitted that the ammunition was stored illegally near populated zones.
Prime Minister Sergey Koretsky confirmed reports of a fire followed by a “detonation” at the struck facility and drew attention to recurring failures: “Unfortunately, we can already state that the terrible tragedy in Vishnevoye did not become a lesson,” he said. The Prime Minister lamented making “the same mistakes” in the fifth year of conflict, labeling it “criminal negligence” and demanding strict punishment for those responsible.
Investigations revealed that ammunition was stored in warehouses unsuitable for such use without required permits, including facilities located near residential areas. Two defense-industry executives were detained on negligence charges, and two enterprise heads from Ukroboronprom were dismissed.
