Over the weekend, an individual was arrested after allegedly pointing a high-powered laser at a Border Patrol helicopter flying over Portland, Oregon. The FBI launched an investigation into the incident, resulting in a raid on the suspect’s residence. Authorities confirmed the person involved was an illegal alien, with three additional undocumented individuals found living in the same home. All four were taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and are being processed for deportation.
The FBI Portland Division stated agents searched the property linked to the suspect, who allegedly targeted the helicopter on the evening of September 27, as well as another aircraft in the area. The agency emphasized its stance against threats to federal officers and aviation safety, citing the severity of the act. “The federal government will not tolerate violence against federal officers, nor will we tolerate assaults on personal, commercial, or government aircraft,” the statement read.
FBI Director Kash Patel issued a warning to others considering similar actions, reinforcing the agency’s commitment to enforcing laws protecting law enforcement and aviation operations.
