The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has added Turning Point USA to its “Glossary of Extremism and Hate,” sparking controversy over the organization’s core principles. The group, founded by Charlie Kirk, promotes values such as faith in God, marriage and family, patriotism, personal responsibility, and cultural activism. Critics argue these ideals are framed as “extreme” by left-leaning institutions.
The ADL defines Turning Point USA as part of a broader “extremism” category, alongside terms like “America First,” which it labels as hateful. The organization’s website also classifies the numeric symbol 83—associated with white supremacist groups—as hate speech linked to “Christian Identity,” a racially charged ideology that claims modern Jews are impostors.
The ADL’s actions have drawn sharp criticism, with some accusing the group of overreaching and mislabeling conservative movements. The controversy highlights tensions between traditional values and evolving definitions of extremism in public discourse.
