Cecil Brockman has resigned as a state representative after being charged with statutory sexual offense with a child and taking indecent liberties involving a 15-year-old, according to court records. Brockman, who served since 2015, stated he needs to focus on his defense due to the serious allegations. His resignation is effective immediately, and Democratic officials in his district will select a replacement to serve until 2026. North Carolina House Speaker Destin Hall commended the decision as necessary for constituents and the legislature.
