After a public rift earlier this year, former President Donald Trump has suggested that Elon Musk may rejoin the Republican Party rather than pursue an independent political path. Speaking to Scott Jennings, Trump stated, “I don’t think he has a choice. What’s he gonna do? He’s gonna go with the radical left lunatics? They’re lunatics.”
Trump described Musk as “80% super genius, and then 20% he’s got some problems,” while emphasizing his personal fondness for him. “I liked him, I always liked him, I like him now. He’s a man of common sense. He’s a good man,” Trump said, acknowledging Musk’s recent missteps but framing them as minor.
Despite the remarks, Musk was notably absent from the guest list for an upcoming White House dinner featuring tech leaders such as Bill Gates, Tim Cook, and Mark Zuckerberg. The event, hosted by Trump in the renovated Rose Garden, excluded the former Department of Government Efficiency head, who had previously aligned with the former president.
Trump’s comments come amid speculation about Musk’s political future, though no official announcement has been made. The White House described the Rose Garden gathering as a “hotspot” for elite figures, signaling its significance in Washington’s social and political landscape.
