FDA Investigates Potential Link Between COVID-19 Vaccines and Pediatric Deaths

FDA Commissioner Marty Makary announced an investigation into whether the COVID-19 vaccine caused deaths in children. A report is expected within a few weeks. During an interview, Makary stated his staff is examining deaths of young healthy children from the vaccine. He referenced self-reported adverse events in the FDA’s database but did not provide specific data linking the deaths to the vaccine. Makary emphasized the need for transparency, stating, “The American people deserve to see the data on children who died from the Covid vaccine.”

Makary noted that access to the COVID-19 vaccine has become more restricted compared to four years ago. The FDA recently adjusted eligibility criteria, and Makary wrote an op-ed explaining the administration’s stance against indefinite boosters. He highlighted two key questions: whether continued vaccination is necessary and if the benefits outweigh the risks.

Makary mentioned an agreement with vaccine manufacturers to conduct a randomized control placebo trial, aiming to release results by May. The study, set to begin in winter, seeks to address these concerns.
