FBI Discovers High-Powered Rifle in Utah Valley University Investigation

The FBI has revealed new details in the ongoing investigation into the assassination of Charlie Kirk, confirming that a high-powered bolt-action rifle was recovered from a wooded area near Utah Valley University. Special agent Robert Bohls, leading the Salt Lake City field office, stated the weapon is undergoing analysis at an FBI laboratory.

Bohls provided further insight during a news conference at the university, noting that the rifle was found in the location where the shooter fled after the incident. Investigators have also collected “footwear impressions, palm prints, and forearm imprints” for forensic evaluation.

FBI Agent Beau Mason shared additional updates, emphasizing the recovery of the weapon, which officials believe was used in the shooting. Authorities described the suspect as “of college age” and noted efforts to track their movements after the attack. A Utah Department of Public Safety commissioner mentioned that investigators have made “a few breakthroughs,” though specific details were not disclosed.

The victim’s family has been left “devastated,” according to officials, who expressed empathy for their ordeal. Authorities also addressed the recent detention and subsequent clearing of two individuals linked to the case, urging an end to harassment against them. While law enforcement possesses “good video” and images of the suspect, they have not released the materials as the investigation continues.

Charlie Kirk’s body has been transferred to the state medical examiner’s office, with officials working to return it to his family.
