President Trump declared on Thursday that a historic agreement had been reached for the complete disarmament of Hamas and all other armed groups in Gaza. In a Truth Social post, Trump stated: “Today, the Board of Peace reached a HISTORIC agreement for the COMPLETE DISARMAMENT of Hamas and all other armed groups in Gaza. This is a monumental step toward lasting PEACE and SECURITY.”
The announcement outlined phased implementation under the Trump 20-Point Plan, specifying that Israeli forces would withdraw once disarmament was complete, with an International Stabilization Force and a new Palestinian police force assuming responsibility for Gaza’s security. Trump emphasized that Gaza would transition to governance by the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), stating: “The threat that emerged from Gaza on October 7 will NOT be allowed to rebuild!”
U.S.-led negotiations with Hamas, mediated by Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, centered on Hamas surrendering all weapons within weeks to multinational-guarded depots while ceasing military activity and recruitment. Israel retained its position that withdrawal behind the “yellow line” would not occur until disarmament was finalized.
A U.S. official acknowledged Israeli skepticism regarding Hamas’s compliance but described the agreement as a “conditions-based deal,” noting: “They’re not really being asked to do much in the process because this isn’t really a trust deal.” The Jerusalem Post reported that an unresolved 15-point document failed to address Israel’s demands for full demilitarization of Gaza, with Israeli concerns relayed to mediator Tony Blair.
