MINNEAPOLIS — Authorities have discovered three bodies across the city over three consecutive days, but officials have not confirmed any link between the incidents.
The first body was found around 6 p.m. on Saturday near East River Flats Park, close to the Mississippi River and University of Minnesota campus. The woman has since been identified as Karen Lynn Sognesand, 56, of Maple Grove. A family obituary described her as a loving daughter, sister, and friend who struggled with mental health challenges following her father’s death.
On Sunday morning at approximately 11:30 a.m., another body was discovered along the east shore of Bde Maka Ska near West 36th Street and East Bde Maka Ska Parkway. The remains were reported to be severely decomposed.
Later that same day, a third body was found near 6th Street and Main Street Southeast, close to Minneapolis’ Stone Arch Bridge.
Two of the three individuals remain unidentified. Authorities have not announced a common suspect, shared cause of death, or evidence linking the incidents. The condition of the remains means the date of discovery does not equate to the date of death. Medical examiners are working to determine circumstances of each death and identify victims.
Until more information becomes available, these are three separate investigations — not proof of coordinated crime or a single perpetrator. Families of the victims await answers in what remains a deeply unsettling situation for Minneapolis.
