Amaryllis Fox Kennedy, a former undercover CIA officer and member of the Kennedy family by marriage, has resigned from two key intelligence posts within President Trump’s administration.
Fox Kennedy is stepping down as Deputy Director of National Intelligence for Policy and Capabilities under DNI Tulsi Gabbard and from her senior role in the White House Office of Management and Budget focused on intelligence and international affairs.
Immediate reports framed the departure as a break with President Trump over Iran policy. In response, Fox Kennedy took to X and directly rejected the narrative, stating: “Hogwash,” she wrote, calling President Trump “our Peacemaker in Chief” and adding: “Make no mistake about it — I stand with the President EVERY STEP OF THE WAY.”
Fox Kennedy is Robert F Kennedy Jr.’s daughter-in-law and married to Robert F Kennedy III. She previously helped run Kennedy’s 2024 presidential campaign before he endorsed President Trump, later joining the administration as Secretary of Health and Human Services.
Her tenure in the Trump administration included multiple intelligence-related positions, including the Deputy Director of National Intelligence for Policy and Capabilities role and a White House Office of Management and Budget post. Her resignation affects those two roles, though she remains on the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board and the Intelligence Oversight Board.
In a May 8 email, Fox Kennedy explained her decision, stating she is returning to the private sector to prioritize family finances and personal time with her children. She also explicitly denied reports that she left due to disagreements over Iran policy.
Her intelligence background spans years of undercover work before transitioning into policy roles.
