An Arkansas man charged with second-degree murder for killing an accused sex offender found in a car with his 14-year-old daughter has announced his candidacy for Lonoke County sheriff. Aaron Spencer, 36, faces trial for the 2024 shooting of 67-year-old Michael Fosler, who was allegedly involved in over 40 child sex crime charges tied to Spencer’s daughter.
According to court records, Fosler was charged with two counts of internet solicitation of a minor, two counts of fourth-degree sexual assault, and two counts of sexual indecency with a child, along with 36 charges related to possession of child sexual abuse materials. The incident occurred after Spencer discovered his daughter missing from her bed, later finding her in Fosler’s car. A confrontation ensued, ending with Fosler being shot and pronounced dead at the scene.
Spencer, who called 911 to report the shooting, is set for a pre-trial hearing on December 16 and a trial beginning January 26, 2026. In a video announcing his bid for sheriff, he claimed the legal system failed him, stating, “I’m the father who acted to protect my daughter when the system failed.” He criticized law enforcement and the court system, vowing to prioritize community safety if elected.
Spencer’s wife, Heather, launched a fundraising campaign for her husband, describing Fosler as a “monster” who “raped our child” and was released on a $50,000 bond despite pending felony charges. She called Spencer a “hero” for saving their daughter. Community members have expressed support for his candidacy, with comments praising his actions and urging solidarity.
The case has drawn significant attention, highlighting tensions between personal justice and legal procedures.
