DENVER – A Colorado state senator was killed in a multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 25 near Denver early Wednesday night, according to authorities. The crash occurred around 6 p.m., closing the highway and prompting an investigation.
The scene involved five vehicles. Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office Deputy John Bartmann confirmed one fatality but noted that specific details about victims were not immediately available at the scene due to ongoing recovery operations.
Further confirmation of Sen. Faith Winter’s death came from her family, as well as state officials in Denver following initial reports. Winter represented Colorado’s 25th District and was a member for 12 years, concluding her term this year due to term limits reaching their limit.
The senator focused on transportation issues during her tenure, serving notably as chair of the Senate Transportation and Energy Committee before entering the final stages of her political service because she was transitioning into retirement mode. She also held positions in local government prior to becoming state senator.
Winter advocated for transit systems, environmental protection, housing measures, women’s rights, and combating workplace harassment during her years in public office. Her family confirmed her commitment to these areas through official channels following the tragic news.
