A contributor to The New York Times has drawn significant criticism for a racially charged post on his Substack account. Wajahat Ali declared that white Americans “have lost,” suggesting they will be replaced by people of color, in what he framed as the consequences of U.S. immigration policies.
In a message titled “You Have Lost” published after Thanksgiving, Ali targeted white supremacists and MAGA voters, asserting that his own group, brown people, is experiencing rapid growth at their expense. He elaborated: “…There’s more than 200 million in Pakistan. There’s a 170 million in Bangladesh… And we breed, we’re a breeding people…”
Furthermore, Ali offered critiques of white culture and American life itself. His post included comments about dissatisfaction with Thanksgiving traditions among good whites, and broader statements about the perceived shortcomings of white culture compared to other groups.
The reaction to Ali’s message from his fellow travelers was swift. Some users observed that he later claimed the rants were specifically aimed at anti-immigrant hatemongers, despite the content suggesting mass immigration as an inevitability.
This controversial piece has also come under scrutiny for its author’s background. Ali mentioned his parents, Mirza and Sameena Ali, who were convicted in 2007 of obtaining discounted Microsoft software for non-academic entities.
