Criminal Probe Resumes Against Controversial Democratic Candidate Amid Calls for Withdrawal

Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares intensified his demands for Democratic challenger Jay Jones to exit the race after revelations emerged that Jones is under an active criminal investigation. Miyares criticized Jones for previously disqualifying himself through violent text messages expressing fantasies about the death of a political opponent and their children, followed by allegations of evading legal consequences for reckless driving at 116 miles per hour on a high-risk Virginia interstate.

Miyares stated, “It is impossible for Jay Jones to fulfill the duties of this office while under an open criminal investigation. If he remains in the race, it demonstrates a disregard for voters unseen in modern Virginia politics.” A source confirmed to 10 On Your Side that a special prosecutor has been assigned to examine Jones’ reckless driving community service case.

Jones, the current Democratic nominee for Virginia attorney general, received a 1,000-hour community service sentence following a 2022 reckless driving conviction in New Kent County. The appointment of a special prosecutor follows questions about whether Jones fulfilled part of his service through his political action committee. Additionally, Jones faces scrutiny over text messages from 2022 detailing hypothetical plans to shoot a former Virginia GOP House Speaker.

A judge approved the selection of James City County Commonwealth’s Attorney Nate Green as the special prosecutor, though Green declined due to jurisdictional conflicts. The Virginia GOP questioned Jones’ credibility, stating, “How can voters trust someone to lead the justice system if they are under active investigation for undermining it?”

Legal documents revealed Jones completed 500 hours of community service through his political action committee and another 500 with the NAACP of Virginia, according to a sworn statement from Rev. Cozy Bailey. Fox News Digital is pursuing an FOIA request to uncover communications between Jones’ committee and New Kent County.

No further details on the investigation’s progress were provided.
