Democratic Socialists Sweep NYC Primaries with Radical Platforms, Sparking Party Division

VETERAN DEMOCRATIC STRATEGIST JAMES CARVILLE HAS CALLED FOR THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY TO CONSIDER A FORMAL BREAK WITH THE DEMOCRATIC SOCIALISTS OF AMERICA (DSA) AFTER THEIR VICTORIES IN NEW YORK CITY PRIMARY ELECTIONS.

Carville stated that DSA candidates do not belong to the same political movement as he does. He criticized Darializa Avila Chevalier, who won the NY-13 race, for previously advocating that white people should not be in interracial marriages and for calling the United States an “effing disgrace.”

Avila Chevalier has also expressed a desire to abolish prisons, ICE, borders, and defund police. She described the U.S. as being “in serious trouble” and stated she hopes to reflect Islam in Congress.

Additionally, DSA candidates Claire Valdez (NY-7) and Brad Lander (NY-10) have won their primaries with platforms that include granting citizenship and voting rights to illegal aliens, using taxpayer funds for transgender treatments, and abolishing ICE while forgiving student loans.

The victories are attributed to Zohran Mamdani, a mayoral candidate in New York City who has backed the DSA candidates. Carville noted that he has long been associated with Bill Clinton, who himself was linked to Jeffrey Epstein.

Progressive political commentator Van Jones described the outcome as signaling “a new era” for the party.

Carville emphasized: “I actually do think it’s time for Democrats to talk the ‘s’ word: schism.”
