Wounded Marine veteran Johnny “Joey” Jones has re-enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps during a swearing-in ceremony at the Pentagon on Wednesday.
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth personally re-enlisted him at the event, which took place in the Pentagon’s Hall of Heroes.
Jones is a war hero who previously served nearly a decade in the Marine Corps. He retired after a life-altering incident in 2010 that resulted in the loss of both legs. Now, he is bravely returning to finish what he started. Jones reenlisted on May 20, 2026, with the goal of “finishing the story” he began over two decades ago and repaying a remaining “debt.”
Jones, a formerly-retired staff sergeant, served eight years in the Marine Corps and was deployed twice. He suffered a life-changing injury while deployed in Afghanistan as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal technician during a 2010 IED-related incident that resulted in the loss of both legs and severe damage to his right forearm and both wrists.
After retiring, Jones spent years as a television host and authored multiple bestsellers. He has also created a fellowship on Capitol Hill with the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, working on issues facing active duty and retired service members.
