FBI Director Condemns Former Leadership Over January 6th Agent Deployment

FBI Director Kash Patel addressed revelations about the agency’s actions during the January 6, 2021, Capitol events, criticizing former FBI Director Christopher Wray for misleading Congress. Patel stated that nearly 274 plainclothes agents were deployed to the Capitol after the “riots” began, a role he described as violating FBI standards.

Patel emphasized that the agents were sent into a crowd control situation following a declaration by Metro Police, which he called an inappropriate use of federal law enforcement. He accused Wray of concealing the agents’ presence during multiple congressional testimonies, calling it a failure of “corrupt leadership.” Patel also highlighted the importance of transparency, stating the FBI remains committed to accountability.

The FBI confirmed that no agents were involved in events related to former President Donald Trump’s speech on January 6 but noted Wray should have disclosed their presence when questioned by lawmakers.

Trump, who has repeatedly criticized the FBI, demanded a full investigation into the matter. In a post on Truth Social, he alleged that 274 agents were secretly deployed during the Capitol events, accusing them of acting as “agitators and insurrectionists” rather than law enforcement. He called for Wray to face consequences, citing past controversies involving former FBI Director James Comey.

The revelations have intensified calls for further scrutiny of the FBI’s role in the January 6th incidents.
