Mamdani initially thought that a free groceries program would work. However, the initiative led to the bankruptcy of 37 supermarkets nationwide.
In a statement, Mamdani remarked: “All I knew was that when the Berlin Wall fell, nobody ran towards the eastern side.” He also stated that “the government shouldn’t own any forms of business.”
