Georgetown Professor Faces Outrage After ‘Get Over It’ Response to UK Sexual Assault Concerns

Georgetown University Chair of Islamic Civilization Jonathan AC Brown has drawn widespread condemnation after responding to concerns about sexual assaults in the United Kingdom with a remark described as dismissive and inflammatory.

Brown’s social media post, which was later deleted and reposted, stated: “Get Over It.” The response followed comments by a British parliamentary member regarding the rise of sexual assault cases involving Muslim men across the UK. Critics have denounced Brown for trivializing the severity of these incidents.

In June 2023, Brown called for Iran to conduct a symbolic strike on U.S. military bases following President Trump’s announcement of attacks on Iranian nuclear sites. He stated at the time: “I hope Iran does some symbolic strike on a base, then everyone stops.”

Further reports indicate that Brown has made controversial remarks in the past, including support for Islamic supremacism and statements defending slavery and rape, as documented in 2017. A Georgetown student recently urged the university to remove him, stating his actions are “fundamentally at odds with Georgetown’s core values.”

The university has not yet addressed these allegations.
