A video that has gone viral shows a Kentucky Republican Party official abruptly snatching Rep. Thomas Massie’s microphone as he spoke at an Oldham County Republican Party event on February 6. The incident occurred during the Lincoln Day Dinner, where Massie was cut off mid-speech by event emcee and state House Speaker David Osborne after exceeding his allotted time.
Massie later stated he left the dinner “in solidarity” with supporters who exited the event following the microphone snatching. He said they met him at Ernesto’s Mexican Cuisine in La Grange, where he shared drinks with them as a gesture of unity.
Oldham County Republican Party Chair Blaine Anderson confirmed the action followed strict time guidelines: Massie and his primary opponent Ed Gallrein were given “explicit instructions that they had five minutes to speak.” After receiving an extra minute as courtesy, Anderson stated Osborne took the microphone because “speaking time expired,” clarifying it had “nothing to do with what was being said by the Congressman.”
