French President Emmanuel Macron has condemned U.S. President Donald Trump and Republican leaders for what he labeled “stupid” remarks about recent riots that left French cities burning, while Macron was engaged in energy negotiations with Middle Eastern nations.
The unrest, which prompted curfews in major French cities, has drawn comparisons from Trump to potential domestic chaos if Democrats win the November midterms. In a series of posts on his social media platform, Trump warned that a Democratic victory could lead to similar riots and burning cities across the United States.
Trump described the situation in France as being “conquered” by immigrants and extremists, stating: “The immigration of people from an entirely different world… has shattered that once great country.” He also vowed to allocate $400 million to prevent what he claimed would be a Democratic takeover of Congress.
Similarly, Vice President JD Vance echoed Trump’s warnings, referencing the collapse of a French city hall belfry as evidence of the dangers posed by open borders. House Speaker Mike Johnson further warned that a shift toward democratic control could lead to a “Marxist revolution” in America.
Macron, who watched the riots unfold from Qatar and other international locations, blamed foreign interference for the unrest. He stated: “All the people who are speaking ill of our country right now are people who don’t love our country.” Macron also dismissed claims of an invasion by migrants and extremists as false, emphasizing that video evidence showed students were a significant portion of those protesting.
With further demonstrations planned for this weekend, Macron pledged to prevent violence in Paris. He received commitments from Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates for additional diesel fuel deliveries to support his government’s energy needs.
