Mark Cuban Praises TrumpRx Amid Congressional Testimony

Mark Cuban, founder of Cost Plus Drugs, delivered remarks during a congressional hearing on the U.S. prescription drug crisis, expressing strong endorsement for TrumpRx, a program launched by former President Donald Trump. Cuban described the initiative as “incredible” and “stupendous,” emphasizing its potential to revolutionize drug affordability.

During the testimony, Cuban confirmed that his company would integrate with TrumpRx, stating, “We’re excited to offer them our API so when prices go down, everybody benefits.” He highlighted the program’s direct-to-consumer model, which bypasses traditional pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) and aims to reduce costs for patients. Cuban also praised TrumpRx’s use of minimum data rates (MFNs), which he argued would allow drug manufacturers to negotiate directly with consumers rather than through PBMs.

The hearing focused on systemic issues within the healthcare system, with Cuban noting that his company’s transparent pricing model—publishing daily prices and cost breakdowns—has built trust with patients. He cited examples of significant savings, such as a $1,300 price tag for Ozempic via PBMs versus $499 through direct programs, attributing the disparity to PBM profit margins.

Cuban acknowledged the complexity of overhauling the healthcare system but framed TrumpRx as a promising step toward greater affordability. His comments, while laced with apparent enthusiasm, were tempered by recognition of broader challenges in the industry.
